CNG Triton XXIX, lot 1125

This specimen was lot 1125 in CNG Triton XXIX (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $3,675. The catalog description[1] noted, "LANCASTER. Henry V. 1413-1422. AR Farthing. Class G. London (Tower) mint. + hЄnRIC x RЄX x ΛnGLIЄ, crowned facing bust / CIVI TΛS LOn DOn, long cross pattée, triple pellets in quarters. Toned. Good VF. An excellent example of this very rare little coin." The silver penny, the staple of commerce since Alfred the Great, began to be superseded by the groat in the fifteenth century. The silver farthing, tho still needed for small transactions, was an inconvenient coin to strike and was usually neglected by the moneyers.
