SB225-10140r.jpg

This specimen was lot 10140 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €240 (about US$250). The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. Skilling, 1621. Christian IV. NGC MS-61. From the L. E. Bruun Collection." This type was struck 1619-23; during this period, the skilling was devalued from 1/96 speciedaler to 1/144 speciedaler; we don't know if this issue was affected. Christian IV (r. 1588-1648) had a long but only moderately successful reign. His war with Sweden and his intervention in the Thirty Years War were costly and brought little gain.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 0.53 g, 0.312 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-67; Hede-119D; Sieg-24.4; Schou-85; AH-20.3.3; Bruun-5269.
