from the Stack's Bowers February 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 10117

This specimen was lot 10117 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €168 (about US$175). The catalog description^[1] noted, "DENMARK. 4 Skilling, 1619. Copenhagen Mint. Christian IV. NGC VF-30. From the L. E. Bruun Collection." This type was struck 1616-19 and was worth 1/24 speciedaler. Oval shield (KM 55.1) and square topped shield (KM 55.2, shown here) varieties exist. Christian IV (r. 1588-1648) had a long but only moderately successful reign. His war with Sweden and his intervention in the Thirty Years War were costly and brought little gain.
