Jean Elsen sale 136, lot 1303

This specimen was lot 1303 in Jean Elsen sale 136 (Brussels, March 2018), where it sold for €120 (about US$176 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DANEMARK, Christian IV (1588-1648), AR 1 Mark, 1617, Copenhague. D/ B. cour. et cuir. à d. R/ Ecu ovale sous la valeur. Très Beau. (kingdom of Denmark, Christian IV, 1588-1648, silver one mark of 1617, Copenhagen mint. Obverse: crowned and armored bust right; reverse: oval arms below value. Very fine.)"

This type was struck 1612-18, and this is a fairly common date. There are two mintmarks for this date: crossed scabbards (shown here) = Johan Post; shamrock = Nicolaus Schwabe.

Specification: 8.66 g, 0.593 fine silver, this specimen 8,74 g.
