Denmark 1622 8 skilling
This specimen was lot 10187 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Copenhagen, June 2026), where it sold for €341.60 (about US$394). The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. 8 Skilling, 1622. Frederiksborg Mint. Christian IV. NGC AU Details--Cleaned. Well struck and amazingly centered for the type. Attractive example. From the L.E. Bruun Collection." This type was struck 1622-23. It is not expensive in low grade but very scarce in nice condition. The Frederiksborg mint operated briefly 1621-23 and its products, which include six and twelve skilling, are very crude. Christian IV (r. 1588-1648), king of Denmark and duke of Schleswig-Holstein, where this was struck, had a long but only moderately successful reign. His war with Sweden and his intervention in the Thirty Years War were costly and brought little gain. One speciedaler was eight of these coins.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 2.01 g, 0.888 fine silver, 14.8 mm diameter.
