Denmark-Gluckstadt (16)23 1/16 speciedaler
This specimen was lot 10142 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €168 (about US$175). The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. Glückstadt. 1/16 Speciedaler (3 Skilling Lybsk), 1623. Christian IV. NGC AU-50. Excellent condition with Lady Luck on the reverse. From the L. E. Bruun Collection." This type was struck 1623-25 and undated. Christian IV (r. 1588-1648), king of Denmark and duke of Schleswig-Holstein, where this was struck, had a long but only moderately successful reign. His war with Sweden and his intervention in the Thirty Years War were costly and brought little gain.
