Denmark-Gluckstadt (16)24 sosling
This specimen was lot 10155 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €240 (about US$250). The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. Søsling Lybsk, 1624. Gluckstadt Mint. Christian IV. NGC AU-55. Iridescent toning. From the L. E. Bruun Collection. Ex: Aug. K. Krautwald Collection (Private Sale-1916)." This type was struck 1623-25 and was worth one Danish skilling. Christian IV (r. 1588-1648), king of Denmark and duke of Schleswig-Holstein, where this was struck, had a long but only moderately successful reign. His war with Sweden and his intervention in the Thirty Years War were costly and brought little gain.
