Denmark 1621 8 kroneskilling
This specimen was lot 10139 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €240 (about US$250). The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. 8 Kroneskilling, 1621. Christian IV. NGC VF-35. Nice toning. From the L. E. Bruun Collection." This type was struck 1620-21 with numerous mintmarks (clover, crossed swords, bird, crossed axes, half flower) and was worth 1/18 speciedaler, the result of a devaluation. "· R · F · P ·" is not a mintmark but the king's motto, "REGNA FIRMAT PIETAS". Christian IV (r. 1588-1648) had a long but only moderately successful reign. His war with Sweden and his intervention in the Thirty Years War were costly and brought little gain.
