This specimen was lot 24384 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it sold for $1,762.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 8 Escudos 1835-RS Bogotá, AU58 NGC, lightly toned with plenty of mint luster, mild handling on both sides." This type was struck at Popayán 1822-36 and at Bogotá 1822-38. It was superseded by the quasi-decimal sixteen pesos issued at both mints 1837-49. Both types are common enough that some attempt to collect complete date sets.
