Heritage sale 3010, lot 20780

This type was struck 1822-38 at Popayán and Bogotá. This type is one of the commonest gold coins of South America but the recent rise in the price of gold has made this coin expensive. This specimen was lot 20780 in Heritage sale 3010 (Boston, August 2010), where it sold for $3,105. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Republic gold 8 Escudos 1836RS Bogotá, MS62 NGC, a very attractive example with full mint brilliance and well-struck details, a premium coin for this designation."
