This one real was struck at Bogotá and Popayán 1826-36 while the country was the "Republic of Colombia," which, after many vicissitudes, is again the country name. The type is scarcer than the SCWC indicates. The initials RS correspond to the assayers. Nueva Granada was a Centralist Republic created upon the dissolution of Gran Colombia in 1830. The region held this name until 1858, when the Granadine Confederation was formed.
