Sedwick sale 11, lot 1099

The specimen shown was lot 1099 in Sedwick sale 11 (Winter Park, FL, April 2011), where it sold for $126.50. The catalog description[1] noted,

"Bogotá, Colombia, 1 real, 1835RS. Choice XF+ with hint of luster (scarce grade), lightly toned, no problems."

This one real was struck at Bogotá and Popayán 1826-36 while the country was the "Republic of Colombia," which, after many vicissitudes, is again the country name. The type is scarcer than the SCWC indicates.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.1 g, 0.666 fine silver, .066 troy oz ASW, this specimen 2.6 grams.
