Colombia 1834-P RU 1/4 real

The first specimen shown was lot 1102 in Sedwick sale 11 (Winter Park, FL, April 2011), where it did not sell. The catalog description^[1] noted,

"Bogotá, Colombia, 1/4 real, 1834RU. Bold centers but crude rims, VF with very light toning, elusive type with strong catalog value."

This quarter real was struck at Bogotá and Popayán 1826-36 while the country was the "Republic of Colombia," which, after many vicissitudes, is again the country name. The type is much scarcer than the SCWC indicates.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 0.70 g, 0.666 fine silver, .015 troy oz ASW, this specimen 0.7 grams.
