Colombia 1835-P RU escudo
This type was struck 1823-36 at Popayán. It is somewhat common altho this is an unlisted date. Assayer UR is listed for 1829-36 and RU for 1827-41 (they may be the same assayer). This specimen was lot 40343 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $1,320. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 1835-RU Escudo. Popayán mint. AU-58 (PCGS). Another rare date in this series. Exceptionally well struck, with a fully realized portrait and reflective fields. Some orange toning highlights are seen on the lustrous surfaces, coupled with trivial scattered hairlines. A minor lamination is noted behind the base of the portrait. A really lovely example. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins. Ex. Capitol Coin, February 1969."
