The first specimen was lot 7062 in Ponterio sale 152 (New York, January 2010), where it sold for $1,437.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE. 8 Escudos, 1835-IJ. Bold VERY FINE+." This "hand on book" type replaced the "crossed flag" type struck 1818-34 and was issued 1835-38. It was accompanied by similar one, two and four escudos types.
Recorded mintage: 33,000.
Specification: 27 g, 0.875 fine gold, .760 troy oz AGW.
