This specimen was lot 131 in Sedwick sale 12 (Winter Park, FL, October 2012), where it sold for $1,770. The catalog description[1] noted, "Santiago, Chile, 1 escudo, 1838IJ. Problem-free AU with attractive red toning and luster, scarce low mintage and one-year type." This type was struck at Santiago 1838 only in limited numbers. It is accompanied by two, four and eight escudos.
Recorded mintage: 6122.
Specification: 3.38 g, 0.875 fine gold, .095 troy oz AGW, this specimen 3.4 grams.
