This specimen was lot 41123 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $900. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE. 2 Escudos, 1837-So IJ. Santiago Mint. NGC EF Details--Obverse Damage. Despite the noted damage, which occurs in the form of an attempted drill hole near the lower field of the obverse, this golden minor stands as a GREAT RARITY, especially when considering its paltry mintage figure. Ex: Jose Miguel Barros Franco Collection." This scarce type was struck 1837-38 in small numbers and was succeeded by a standing liberty design (KM 102.1) 1839-45.
