This specimen was lot 2886 in Goldberg sale 75 (Los Angeles, September 2013), where it sold for $529. The catalog description[1] noted, "Chile. Escudo, 1834-I. Sun, mountains and volcanos. Reverse: Crossed flags. About Very Fine." This type was struck 1824-34 and was succeeded by the "hand on book" type (1838) and "standing liberty" type (1839-51). None of the recorded mintages are large.
Recorded mintage: 10,614 (highest mintage date).
Specification: 3.3 g, 0.875 fine gold, .093 troy oz AGW, 19 mm diameter.
