This type was struck 1818-34 in moderate quantities but increased collector demand has made this coin expensive. This type was replaced in 1835 by the "hand on book" type minted 1835-38. The crossed flag design appears on gold one, two and four escudos of the period.

Recorded mintage: 31,000.

Specification: 27 g, 0.875 fine gold, .760 troy oz AGW.
