Chile 1835 centavo KM-116

CNG Lissner sale, lot 1366

This specimen was lot 1366 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $786.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE, Republic. 1818-present. Proof CU Centavo. Soho (Birmingham) mint. Dated 1835. Type with thin flat star. In NGC encapsulation graded PF 63 BN. Nice reddish brown with lovely fields. Ex Whittier Collection (Heritage 410, 2 June 2006), lot 16476." Chile converted to decimal coinage in the 1850's; however, in 1835, the regime attempted to circulate these copper half and one centavos. This one centavo comes in medal alignment (shown here) and coin alignment (KM 116). The KM 115 is common in circulated condition but the KM 116 appears only in proof.
