This specimen was lot 30361 in Heritage sale 3035 (Long Beach, September 2014), where it sold for $2,115. The catalog description[1] noted, "Ferdinand VII gold 8 Escudos 1819 NR-JF MS60 PCGS, Nuevo Reino mint. A nice lustrous coin with bold details. Clearly a premium coin for this designation. From The Law Collection." The type was struck in Popayán in Nueva Granada (now Colombia) 1808-20. Nuevo Reino and its neighbor Popayán were the most prolific issuers of gold coins during the colonial period and this coin is common, tho the price of gold has made this coin expensive. Assayer JF is recorded for 1808-20.
