This specimen was lot 993 in Sedwick Auction 36 (Winter Park, FL, November 2024), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA, Bogotá, ¼ real, 1819, NGC XF details / cleaned, ex-Becerra. Satin surfaces with very light toning, only lightly worn details and rims (obverse slightly off-center), muted luster, overall an excellent representative of this final date of colonial Colombian ¼R. Pedigreed to the Becerra Collection (stated on label)." Colonial quarter reales of the "Lions and castles" type are known from the Nuevo Reino (Bogotá) and Popayán mints for 1796-1819 (KM 63 or KM 67). Cundinamarca quarter reales of debased silver are known for 1814-15 (KM F2) and 1820-22 (KM 79). Republican quarter reales (KM 85) are known for 1826-36. None are common, particularly in nice condition. This coin had a face value of 1/512 of an eight escudos.
