This specimen was lot 3833 in Goldberg sale 74 (Los Angeles, June 2013), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Colombia. 8 Escudos, 1820-JF (Nuevo Reino). Ferdinand VII. Uniformed bust of Charles IV right. Reverse: Crowned arms within Order chain. Considerable amount of original mint luster. NGC graded AU-58." This type was struck at the Nuevo Reino mint in Colombia 1808-20. Altho Ferdinand VII's name was used on the obverse legend, it is the bust of Charles IV which appears. This was typical for all of Colombia's coinage in the last years of the colonial era. Assayer JF is recorded for 1808-20.
