This specimen was lot 1554 in the Eliasberg sale, where it sold for $287.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "1820 JF 1 escudo. Bogotá mint. AU-58 (NGC). Types as above. Pale medium gold. From the John H. Clapp Collection; Clapp estate to Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr., 1942." This type was struck at Bogotá 1808-20 and at Popayán 1808-19 and is among the more available Spanish colonial gold coins.

Specification: 3.38 g, 0.875 fine gold, .095 troy oz AGW; this specimen: 3.29 grams, 18.40 mm diameter.
