This specimen was lot 499 in Ponterio sale 182 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $1,527.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 8 Escudos, 1820-PFM. NGC AU-55." This type was struck at the Popayán mint in Colombia 1808-20. Altho Ferdinand VII's name was used on the obverse legend, it is the bust of Charles IV which appears. This was typical for all of Colombia's coinage in the last years of the colonial era. Assayer FM is recorded for 1808-20.
