This specimen was lot 23327 in Heritage sale 3030 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $12,925. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 8 Escudos 1819 So-FD, MS64 PCGS. Well struck, some light lintmarks through the sunface on the obverse, but otherwise a stunning type coin of the first gold design of this Republic. Planchet flaws and worn examples are the norm for this popular type, so this example is of truly rare quality. From The Formosa Collection." This type was struck 1818-34 in moderate quantities but increased demand has made this coin expensive.
