This specimen was lot 2334 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2017), where it sold for $1,703.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHINA. 50 Yuan, 1997. NGC PROOF-69 ULTRA CAMEO. Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Authorized mintage of only 1,500 pieces. Nearly perfect and free of tone, haze, or fog." The Chinese government has, since the mid 1980's, produced a mind boggling array of bullion related collectibles. This NCLT is one of a series depicting incidents from the ancient Chinese novel, Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
