This specimen was lot 3408 in Goldberg sale 90 (Los Angeles, January 2016), where it sold for $117.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "China. 5 Yuan, 1996. Panda in tree looking down. Choice Brilliant Uncirculated." The Chinese government has, since the mid 1980's, produced a mind boggling array of bullion related collectibles. A complete set is thousands of types yet buyers clamor for more. This issue is accompanied by a tenth ounce gold panda (KM 884).
Recorded mintage: 145,347.
Specification: 1.56 g, 0.999 fine gold, .050 troy oz AGW.
