This specimen was lot 1689 in Goldberg sale 106 (Los Angeles, September 2018), where it sold for $408. The catalog description[1] noted, "China. 5 Yuan, 1998. Panda seated on rock. Choice Brilliant Uncirculated." The Chinese government has, since the mid 1980's, produced a mind boggling array of bullion related collectibles. The gold panda is one of the most popular.
Recorded mintage: 27,483, including large and small date.
Specification: 1.56 g, 0.999 fine gold, .050 troy oz AGW.
