This specimen was lot 1636 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 28 (Winter Park, FL, November 2020), where it sold for $450. The catalog description[1] noted, "Santiago, Chile, bust 2 reales, Charles IV (bust of Charles III, ordinal IIII), 1791DA. VF with some luster, partially crude rims (as made), rare transitional type." Harris[2] tabulates the Charles III two reales of Santiago as the fourth most abundant mint, after Mexico City (common), Potosi and Lima (each about half as common as Mexico) but it is still scarce. This transitional type was struck 1791-92 only.

Reported Mintage: 54,000 (including KM 37).

Specification: 6.77 g, 0.896 fine silver, .195 troy oz AGW, this specimen 6.59 grams.
