This specimen was lot 74052 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2025), where it sold for $1,020. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE. 8 Reales, 1791-So DA. Santiago Mint. Charles IV. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, AU Details. Variety with "CAROLUS IIII" spelling. From the Richard August Collection. Ex: Jim Shipley Collection." This type was struck 1791-1808. It isn't particularly rare but this date is scarce. Other eight reales are known with the bust of the old king Charles III (KM 39). The silver coinage was debased from 0.903 fine silver to 0.896 fine in 1785.

Recorded mintage: 167,000, including KM 39.
