Aureo y Calicó sale 423, lot 1682

This specimen was lot 1682 in Aureo y Calicó sale 423 (Barcelona, December 2023), where it sold for 170 € (about US$220 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "1791/0. Carlos IV. Santiago. DA. 1 real. Bust of Carlos III. Ordinal IV. Graded NGC as VG Details Plugged, no. 2892733-005. Plugged hole. Ex Aureo y Calicó 04/29/2010, no. 3781. Val and Mexía Collection. Rare. BC-/BC [about fine]." This type was struck at Santiago 1789-91 in limited numbers and, tho not common, is less rare than preceding types. Another 1791 real exists (KM 48) with the king's name spelled "CAROLUS IIII".

Recorded mintage: 20,000 (including KM 48).

Specifications: 3.38 g, 0.896 fine silver, 21 mm diameter, this specimen 3,16 g.
