Stack's Bowers October 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 74052

This specimen was lot 74052 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2024), where it sold for $456. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE. 2 Reales, 1789-So DA. Santiago Mint. Charles III. NGC VF-25. Posthumous Issue for Charles III. Displaying with a rich cabinet toning that is only broken up by some of the circulation this piece has seen." This type was issued from Santiago 1775-89 and is scarce. Two reales struck in the name of Charles IV (KM 37) also exist for 1789.

Recorded mintage: 67,000 including KM 37.

Specification: 6.77 g, 0.896 fine silver, 28.5 mm diameter.
