Aureo y Calicó sale 423, lot 1336

This specimen was lot 1336 in Aureo y Calicó sale 423 (Barcelona, December 2023), where it sold for 320 € (about US$414 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Juan I (1379-1390). Seville. Real. Nice. Original luster. Rare obverse legend. EBC [extremely fine]." Juan I was king of Castile and Leon 1379-90. He died at the age of 32 after falling from his horse. His attempt to conquer Portugal in 1383-85 was an ignominious failure. He issued reales, half reales and cornados in silver and blancas and half blancas in billon.
