Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel 1724-EPH 24 mariengroschen
This specimen was lot 25055 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $690. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Brunswick. 24 Mariengroschen, 1724-EPH. Zellerfeld Mint. August Wilhelm. PCGS MS-61. Quite deeply toned and with an elegant and enticing cabinet nature, this enchanting specimen wholly impresses and offers a level of quality and beauty that is SCARCELY encountered. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This type was struck 1714-30 and is fairly common. Another 24 mariengroschen (KM A812) was struck 1715, 1720, 1724 and is rather scarcer. Twenty-four mariengroschen made two-thirds of a thaler or one gulden.
