This specimen was lot 74486 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Brunswick. 24 Mariengroschen (2/3 Taler), 1722-C. Zellerfeld Mint. August Wilhelm. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, AU Details. A SCARCE date for the issue, the first we have seen and, as far as we are able to locate, only the second to have been offered in public auction over the last 25 years. On the cusp of Mint State in terms of true circulation wear, with evidence of prior cleaning; not unattractive nonetheless, the cleaning manifesting in a fairly smooth and uniform manner and lending an even, glossy appearance. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This type was struck for August Wilhelm 1714-30.
