Künker sale 352, lot 1853

This specimen was lot 1853 in Künker sale 352 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €1,600 (about US$2,227 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBUTTEL, August Wilhelm, 1714-1731. Dukat 1722, Braunschweig. GOLD. RR Fassungsspuren, fast sehr schön. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, August William, 1714-31, ducat of 1722, Brunswick mint. Rare, rim nicks, about very fine.)"

The SCWC lists this type for six dates between 1714 and 1728, altho we have posted a 1729 on this site. August William was succeeded by his brother Ludwig Rudolf in 1731 and Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel and Brunswick-Blankenburg were merged once again.
