Künker sale 293, lot 560

This specimen was lot 560 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €170 (about US$229 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, HERZOGTUM August Wilhelm, 1714-1731. 1/6 Taler 1723, Zellerfeld. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, Augustus William, 1714-31, one sixth thaler of 1723, Zellerfeld mint. Very fine to extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1716-29 and is fairly common. Concurrent with this was a "wild man" six mariengroschen (KM 753). Both were worth one quarter gulden.
