Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel 1679 3 thaler Dav-LS101
This specimen was lot 1328 in Sincona sale 18 (Zürich, May 2014), where it sold for CHF 22,000 (about US$28,988 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"3 Taler 1679. Zellerfeld Geharnischtes, drapiertes Brustbild mit grosser Perücke nach rechts. Rv. Panoramaansichten von Braunschweig und Lüneburg, unten die Jahreszahl 1679 zu Seiten der Wertpunze. Sehr selten. Vorzüglich. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, triple thaler of 1679, Zellerfeld mint. Armored, draped bust with full wig to right; reverse: city views of Brunswick and Luneburg, date and denomination below. Very rare, extremely fine.)"
This large coin was accompanied by an even more massive four and five thalers.
