Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel 1637-HS thaler Dav-6337
This specimen was lot 478 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €320 (about US$431 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, HERZOGTUM August der Jüngere, 1635-1666. Reichstaler 1637, Zellerfeld. Hübsche Patina, sehr schön +. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, Augustus the Younger, 1635-66, thaler of 1637, Zellerfeld mint. Handsome patina, very fine or better.)"
This type of 1636-39 is not listed as rare. Numerous "wild man" thalers exist from this state. It varies from the earlier Dav-6335 and Dav-6336 by giving the duke's titles in German rather than Latin.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver.
