Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel 1635-HS thaler Dav-6307
This specimen was lot 475 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €300 (about US$404 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, HERZOGTUM Friedrich Ulrich, 1613-1634. Reichstaler 1635, Goslar oder Zellerfeld. Posthume Prägung. RR Kl. Prägeschwäche, sehr schön. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, Frederick Ulrich, 1613-34, thaler of 1635, Goslar or Zellerfeld mint, posthumous issue. Rare, slightly weak strike, very fine.)"
This type was struck 1627-35 and is common. It has a beaded inner border around the wild man. HS are the initials of mintmaster Henning Schluter. Duke Friedrich Ulrich ruled 1613-34.
