Künker sale 354, lot 5438

This specimen was lot 5438 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €850 (about US$1,183 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, FÜRSTENTUM, Friedrich Ulrich, 1613-1634. 1/2 Reichstaler 1634, Goslar oder Zellerfeld. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Herrliche Patina, vorzüglich. Aus der Sammlung eines Ingenieurs. Exemplar der Slg. Erich Reichardt, Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 49, Osnabrück 1999, Nr. 1498 (dort falsch beschrieben). (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, Frederick Ulrich, 1613-34, half thaler of 1634, Goslar or Zellerfeld mints. Scarce in this quality, superb patina, extremely fine.)"

This "wild man" half thaler was struck for Frederick Ulrich 1628-34. Another "wild man" half thaler was struck for August II in 1634.
