Stack's Bowers 2023 ANA sale, lot 55458

This specimen was lot 55458 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Brunswick. Taler, 1633. Goslar or Zellerfeld Mint. Friedrich Ulrich. Extremely Fine Details -- Harshly Cleaned. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This type was struck 1627-35 and is common. It has a beaded inner border around the wild man. HS are the initials of mintmaster Henning Schluter. Duke Friedrich Ulrich ruled 1613-34.
