Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel 1632-HS 1/4 thaler
This specimen was lot 74613 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Brunswick. 1/4 Taler, 1632. Zellerfeld or Goslar Mint; mm: crossed keys between HS. Friedrich Ulrich. PCGS VF-35. Quite wholesome and pleasing, this evenly handled but extremely original minor presents a great wildman rendition, with excellent--if rather anatomically inaccurate--muscular detail to his midsection. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection. Ex: Kuenker 77 (9/2002) Lot # 1872." This quarter thaler was struck 1631-32 and 1634 and is rather scarce. A half thaler (KM 51, KM 368) also exists.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver.
Catalog reference: KM-376; Welter-1068.
