Kunker sale 293, lot 481

This specimen was lot 481 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €260 (about US$351 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, HERZOGTUM August der Jüngere, 1635-1666. 1/4 Reichstaler 1639, Zellerfeld. RR Dunkle Patina, sehr schön. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, Augustus the Younger, 1635-66, quarter thaler of 1639, Zellerfeld mint. Rare, dark patina, very fine.)"

This type is noted for 1637-39, 1642 and 1654-55. Numerous "wild man" thalers exist from this state.
