This specimen was lot 480 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €80 (about US$108 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, HERZOGTUM August der Jüngere, 1635-1666. 1/2 Reichstaler 1637, Zellerfeld. Henkelspur, gestopftes Loch, sehr schön. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, Augustus the Younger, 1635-66, half thaler of 1637, Zellerfeld mint. Mount mark, plugged, very fine.)"
This type of 1636-39, 1653-56 is listed as quite a bit scarcer than the matching thaler (Dav-6337) or quarter thaler (KM 395). Numerous "wild man" thalers exist from this state.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver.
Catalog reference: Welter 831, KM 391.
