Sincona sale 51, lot 3161

This specimen was lot 3161 in Sincona sale 51 (Zürich, October 2018), where it sold for 425 CHF (about US$513 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Friedrich III. (I.), 1688-1713. 2/3 Taler 1690 SD, Stargard. Fast vorzüglich. (Germany, electorate of Brandenburg, Frederick III, 1688-1713, two-thirds thaler of 1690. About extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1689-91. It is fairly common but better than Berlin (KM 556), Magdeburg (KM 557) or Minden (KM 558). The final third of the seventeenth century saw a profusion of issues of this denomination. See also issues from Cleve and Halberstadt.
