Brandenburg 1690-LCS ducat Fr-2281
This specimen was lot 1555 in Jean Elsen sale 163 (Brussels, November 2025), where it sold for €19,000 (about US$21,945 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ALLEMAGNE, BRANDEBOURG-PRUSSE, Friedrich III (1688-1701), AV ducat, 1690, Berlin. D/ B. cuirassé à d. R/ Ecu ovale de l'électorat de Brandebourg, sous la couronne d'électeur, dans un cartouche orné posé sur deux palmes. De part et d'autre, les initiales LC-S (Lorenz Christoph Schneider). De la plus haute rareté. Le flan légèrement ondulé. Fine brisure du coin au droit. (Germany, electorate of Brandenburg, Frederick III, 1688-1701, gold ducat of 1690, Berlin mint. obverse: armored bust right; reverse: oval arms of the electorate below the electoral crown in an ornate cartouche with two palm fronds, dividing the mintmaster's initials. Extremely rare, slightly wavy flan, small die break on the obverse, Very Fine - Extremely Fine/Extremely Fine.)"
This type was struck 1689-90 and is rare. Ducats struck after 1700 are listed under Prussia.
