Brandenburg 1690-IE 2/3 thaler
This specimen was lot 2138 in Sincona sale 77 (Zürich, May 2022), where it sold for 140 CHF (about US$170 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"GERMANY | Brandenburg.Prussia. Friedrich III. (I.), 1688-1713. 2/3 Taler 1690 IE, Magdeburg. Mit der Signatur IE (Johann Ehlers, Münzmeister in Magdeburg). Fast vorzüglich. Leicht berieben. (Germany, electorate of Brandenburg, Frederick III, 1688-1713, two thirds thaler of 1690, Magdeburg mint, with mintmaster's initials IE. About extremely fine, lightly polished.)"
This type was struck 1689-95 at Magdeburg. The products of this mint are common like those of Berlin (KM 556). The final third of the seventeenth century saw a profusion of issues of this denomination. See also issues from Minden, Cleve and Halberstadt.
