This specimen was lot 40032 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2019), where it sold for $7,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "Triple Ducaton of Philip IV. BELGIUM. Brabant. 3 Ducaton, 1648. Antwerp Mint. Philip IV (1621-65). PCGS EF-40. EXTREMELY RARE. Draped and cuirassed bust of Philip IV; Reverse: Crowned arms of Spain supported by two lions. Nice even strike with no weak areas. Attractive tone with good eye appeal. From the Collection of Dr. James Eustace Bizzell, II." The regular type, issued 1636-65 from Antwerp (with hand mintmark) and Brussels, is scarce but not rare. The multiple ducatons, which include double and quadruple issues, are all rare. Triple ducatons of this portrait were struck intermittently 1637-57. The other provinces issued this type, including Artois, Flanders, Tournai and Luxembourg.
